# mcpbox save-mcpbox-snapshot

> Save MCP Box as Snapshot

Saves an MCP Box and the API Box it fronts as a new MCP Box Snapshot and a new API Box Snapshot, both ready when the response returns, or neither. The API Box must be running; a paused one is woken, and it keeps running. The MCP Box Snapshot serves the MCP Box's tools and is built against the API Box Snapshot, which holds the API Box's service and current state. Create an API Box from apibox\_snapshot\_id, then an MCP Box from the MCP Box Snapshot in front of it. Both Snapshots outlive the Boxes. An MCP Box whose API Box was deleted returns 409 mcpbox\_apibox\_gone; a starting API Box returns 409 apibox\_starting; a stopping or stopped one returns 409 apibox\_stopped; one whose runtime cannot save its state returns 409 mcpbox\_rebuild\_required.

## Examples

Replace `<id>` with the resource ID from your response before you run the command.

## Flags

**--body** `string`

Request body as JSON (alternative to individual flags). Can also be provided via stdin.

**--id** `string` *required*

ID of the Box to save.

**--idempotency-key** `string`

Optional key for retrying this save safely. A retry with the same key and request returns the Snapshot the first save created. The same key with a different request returns 409 idempotency\_conflict.

**--metadata, -m** `string`

Customer JSON metadata, up to 16 KiB and 64 nesting levels.

**--name, -n** `string`

Name for the Snapshot. Omission generates a name.
