# Simulation API

> Build reusable Simulators from OpenAPI, WSDL or GraphQL documents and run isolated Simulations and Worlds through the v1 API, the continuous CLI, and the Python and TypeScript SDKs.

Continuous turns an API description into a stateful system that your agent can call. The Simulation API builds reusable Simulators and runs isolated Simulations and Worlds. Every operation lives under `https://api.continuouslabs.ai/v1` and takes a Continuous API key as a Bearer token. The `continuous` CLI and the [Python](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/sdks/python.md) and [TypeScript](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/sdks/typescript.md) SDKs send the same requests; run `continuous auth login` once to store your key for the CLI.

## Resources

> **[Simulators](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/concepts/simulators.md)**
>
> An immutable implementation of one API, built from an OpenAPI, WSDL or GraphQL document or taken from the Continuous catalog. IDs start with `smr_`.

> **[Simulations](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/concepts/simulations.md)**
>
> A runtime instance of one ready Simulator, with its own state and endpoint. You can stop, start, and fork it. IDs start with `sim_`.

> **[Worlds](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/concepts/worlds.md)**
>
> A group of Simulators that starts one Simulation for each of them and stops or starts them together. IDs start with `wld_`.

## Build, run, inspect

A Simulator build waits in `pending`, runs in `building`, and ends in `ready`, `failed`, or `canceled`. Create a Simulation from a ready Simulator, then point your agent at its endpoint. Use a World when the scenario needs several Simulators with related starting data.

Follow the [quickstart](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/quickstart.md) for the complete create, call, and cleanup sequence. The [Simulation guide](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/concepts/simulations.md) explains state, time, and forks. [Authentication](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/api-reference/authentication.md) explains the separate API key and Simulation token.

## Next steps

> **[Quickstart](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/quickstart.md)**
>
> Create a Simulation, send a request to it, retrieve and regenerate its token, and delete it.

> **[API reference](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/api-reference/overview.md)**
>
> Request and response schemas, error codes, and authentication for every Simulator, Simulation, and World operation.

> **[CLI](https://docs.continuouslabs.ai/cli/install.md)**
>
> Install `continuous`, sign in, and call every operation from a shell.
